Central European University is a university in Budapest, Hungary. It was established in 1991, with support from George Soros. The university states that its goal is to contribute to the development of open societies in post-Communist countries by education.

As of 2003, Central European University had 100 faculty and 926 students from 76 countries. It offers Master's and Ph.D programs in social sciences, law, business and mathematics.
