Chad Marshall - Definition and Overview

Chad Marshall (born August 22, 1984 in Riverside, California) is an American soccer player, who plays central defense for the Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer.

Marshall was drafted second overall in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft by the Crew, after two distinguished years playing college soccer for Stanford University. He had an exemplary first year, anchoring the Crew defense along with Robin Fraser, and helping the team to an 18 game unbeaten streak and the MLS Supporters' Shield. He finished the season with 27 starts, and was a close second to Clint Dempsey for the MLS Rookie of the Year Award.

As a teenager, Marshall trained at the United States Soccer Federation's exclusive Bradenton Academy and has played for several youth United States national teams. He played for the US at the 2003 World Youth Championship in the United Arab Emirates and since has moved up to the Under-23 team.
