Origins

The Cham script evolved from the early Brahmi alphabet that is found in India. Cham dates back to the first millienium AD.

Uses

The Cham script is used to write Cham, an Austronesian language spoken by the Cham people in Vietnam and Cambodia. Cham has about 230,000 speakers. Cham is written in the Cham, Arabic, and Latin alphabet.

There are two main types of Cham: Western Cham (Cambodia), and Eastern Cham (Vietnam).
