In David Eddings' fantasy saga The Belgariad, Chamdar is an Angarak sorcerer and servant of Torak.
He has been attempting to end the line of Riva for a very long time, to prevent the coming of the king once more (which could spell doom for Torak, and indeed does), and nearly succeeds when he burns down Garion's (later Belgarion) parents' house when Garion was but an infant. Garion manages to escape however, with the help of Belgarath.
When Garion is an adolescent and has not yet learned to control his sorcerer powers, he learns of Chamdar's murder of his parents, Geran and Ildera. He murders Chamdar by willing him to burn alive, and develops many emotional problems from the ordeal.
