Chandra Chandra

Chandra - Definition and Overview

In Hindu mythology, Chandra is a lunar deity, later identified with Soma. He is white and rides his chariot (the moon) across the sky every night, pulled by ten white horses. He is said to be connected with dew, and as such, is a god of fertility. He is the father of Budha (the planet Mercury) with either Tara or Rohini, and is also married to Anuradha and Bharani, both daughters of Daksha.

Chandra can also refer to the Chandra X-ray Observatory or the astronomer Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.
