Work History

Johnson was born in New York on April 13, 1953 and raised in Hawaii.

He launched his first career (as a jazz guitarist) in the mid-70s. Extensive recording credits include at least three albums that went gold, namely "Reach For It" by George Duke, "School Days" by Stanley Clarke, and "Live in London" by Al Jarreau.

He later co-founded a company called CodeHead Technologies which marketed productivity and desktop publishing software (mostly hand-coded in assembly language) for the Atari ST computer.

Today Charles runs the "Little Green Footballs" web design firm with his brother Michael. The LGF weblog began as a testbed on that company's website.

Political Awakening

Johnson voted for Al Gore in 2000, but now describes himself (per neoconservative writer Irving Kristol) as "a liberal who got mugged by reality".

What this means in practical terms may be inferred from the titles of his post 9/11 weblog posts, e.g., "Kerry Fans Terrorize 3-Year Old," "The Lies of the Left," "French Perfidy Watch," etc.

Johnson coined the pejorative political slogan "idiotarian".

Religious Affiliations

Charles Johnson was raised Roman Catholic and considers himself an agnostic.
