Cherokee is the name of a tribe of American Indians or Native Americans.
There is the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (http://www.cherokee.org/)
The name of this tribe of people is the source of all other references to the word Cherokee.
There are several places in the U.S. named for the Cherokee people:
In addition, there are several counties named Cherokee County.
There is also an Iroquoian language spoken by the Cherokee, see Cherokee language
There is also an automobile called the Jeep Cherokee (see Jeep), and a family of light airplanes built by Piper Aircraft.
There is also a fashion label, "Cherokee of California," that was a major manufacturer of women's platform shoes in the late 1970s and 1980s, then branched out into casual clothing, and eventually degenerated into little more than a licensing company.
