Cholecystokinin receptor - Definition and Overview

Cholecystokinin receptors or CCK receptors are a group of G-protein coupled receptors. There are two different subtypes CCK₁ and CCK₂. They are ~50% homologous. The CCK₁ receptor binds mostly to CCK while CCK₂ also binds to gastrin. They are mostly involved in various digestive functions like gastrin-stimulated gastric acid secretion, gastric emptying and gut motility. In the brain, CCK functions as a neuropeptide and CCK receptors are involved in nociception, anxiety, memory and hunger.
