Chris Roner (born March 4, 1980 in San Francisco, California) is an American soccer defender and defensive midfielder, who currently plays for the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer.
Roner (pronounced "Ron-ay") played four years of college soccer at University of California Berkeley where he was Team Captain and MVP his final two years. He was selected 33rd overall by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft. As a rookie, Chris saw signifacant playing time as many Quakes players suffered injuries. The following year, in 2003, his minutes dryed up. However, Chris became part of the greatest comeback game in MLS history as he scored the series-tying goal in the final leg of the MLS Playoffs against the Los Angeles Galaxy on header in 90th minute. The Quakes then went on to win the MLS Cup, despite Roner's own goal in the final.
In 2004, Roner was placed on the injury list as he underwent a season-ending surgery on his right ankle.
