Christian Island is a large island in Georgian Bay close to the communities of Penatanguishene and Midland, Ontario. The island along with it's neighbors Hope Island, and Beckwith Islands are native indian reserves. The natives are descendants of the Beuasoleil island band displaced from that nearby island and previously from the region between Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay. They are referred to as the Mnjikaning First Nation. Christian is inhabited by the band, and leases some beach properties to cottagers in the area. Hope and Beckwith islands are uninhabited but (especially Beckwith) are popular anchorage sites for boaters. The islands have spectacular beaches and forests. There is ferry service from the mainland at Cedar Point, Ontario to Christian Island. Christian Island also has a Lighthouse which marks the southern tip of the islands and was used in the past for ships travelling from Collingwood, Ontario to Penatanguishene, Midland, and Parry Sound.
