Christogram' is an abbreviation for the name of Jesus Christ.
In Eastern Orthodoxy, it is a four-letter abbreviation ICXC - a traditional abbreviation of the Greek words for "Jesus Christ" (i.e., the first and last letters of each of the words "IHCOYC XRICTOC"). On Western Orthodox icons this christogram may be split: "IC" on the left of the image and "XC" on the right, often with titlos.
"ICXC" may also be seen inscribed into the Ichthys.
In many other Christian denominations a chirstogram, also called Chi-Rho or Labarum, is a monogram and symbol for Jesus Christ consisting of the superimposed Greek letters Chi and Rho. See the Labarum rticle for more details.
