Cinders are nut-sized pieces of red or black rock fragments resulting from the ejection of liquid lava that are uncemented vitric, vesicular, pyroclastic material, more than 2.0 mm in at least one dimension, with an apparent specific gravity (including bubble-like cavities called vesicles) of more than 1.0 mm and less than 2.0 mm.
