Clackamas Indians - Definition

The Clackamas Indians were a tribe of natives of the American state of Oregon.

They were part of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde of Oregon.

Like other of the Chinook band, they practiced head-flattening. From infancy the head was compressed between boards, thus sloping the forehead backward.

By 1855, the 88 surviving members of the tribe were relocated to Grand Ronde, Oregon, first to a reservation, later they blended in in the general population.

Of note, they are the technical owners of the Willamette Meteorite.
