The Clean Government Political Assembly (CGPA) - otherwise known as the Komei Political Assembly, was a political party in Japan from 1961 to 1964. It was a theocratic Buddhist party which wanted to make Soka Gakkai the official religion of Japan and eventually the world.

History

The party was formed in 1961 as a theocratic socialist party allied with the opposition Japan Socialist Party against the ruling Liberal Democrats, but did not win any seats at the elections. Its leaders were very close with Soka Gakkai, and due to the secular life of almost all Japanese in post-war Japan, the party was not a successful one. In 1964, it moderated its stance somewhat and formed the Clean Government Party. In 1998, this Komei Party merged with the New Peace Party and formed the New Clean Government Party, which is a major conservative force in modern Japan, though it is still related to Soka Gakkai.

This party is now defunct. It gained its support from most religious Buddhists and Soka Gakkai priests. The party was socialist and theocratic Buddhist, and left-wing, though it is now defunct.
