Cobham is a small town in Surrey, about 20 miles south-west of London, on the banks of the River Mole.
It has always had a quiet village atmosphere, partly due to the picturesque riverbank with weeping willows, swans & water mill. However it is rapidly losing its unique atmosphere to urbanisation. Houses are being built on the site of anything in the town that is not a house. Old unique local business, such as the furniture shop on Anyards Rd, are being converted into high density flats at every opportunity. It also recently aquired traffic lights on Painshill roundabout and on the Portsmouth Road.
Many of the population work in the City of London.
It has a particularly high American population due to the presence of an American school.
Painshill Park is a landscaped garden on the outskirts of the town.
The bridge over the River Mole on the road south from Cobham to Downside and Effingham was washed away in floods in September 1968.
Cobham is known for the movement called the Diggers. Other nearby areas include Chatley Heath, which has one of the last remaining semaphore towers.
