There are two Cole Prizes awarded by the American Mathematical Society. The first is awarded to the mathematician who has made an outstanding contribution to algebra. The second, for number theory. They are named after Frank Nelson Cole who served for 25 years in the American Mathematical Society.
The award for algebra was first awarded in 1928 to L. E. Dickson for his book Algebren und ihre Zahlentheorie, Orell Füssli, Zürich and Leipzig, 1927.
The award for number theory was first awarded in 1931 to H. S. Vandiver for papers dealing with Fermat's Last Theorem.
