Companies House - Definition and Overview

Companies House is an Executive Agency of the United Kingdom Government's Department of Trade and Industry. All companies incorporated in Great Britain must register with Companies House and file their details.

There are two offices of Companies House: the Cardiff office handles companies registered in England and Wales, and the office in Edinburgh handles registrations for Scotland. Each office is headed by a Registrar of Companies, and the Cardiff-based Registrar is also the Chief Executive of Companies House. Overseas companies that establish offices in Great Britain must also register.
