Compilation of Final Fantasy VII - Definition and Overview

Compilation of Final Fantasy VII is the formal title for a series of games and films developed in 2004 and 2005 by Japanese console developer Square Enix. Spearheaded by Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshinori Kitase, the series currently consists of four titles (either already in release or in development), all of which are either sequels or prequels to Square's 1997 hit role-playing game, Final Fantasy VII.

• Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII — A video game developed and released on September 24, 2004 for the NTT DoCoMo FOMA 900i series of mobile phones. Before Crisis takes place six years before the events of Final Fantasy VII and stars the Turks, recurring antiheroes featured in that game.
• Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children — A CGI movie being developed as a sequel to Final Fantasy VII, Advent Children rejoins hero Cloud Strife several years following the conclusion of the game and features either cameos or substantive roles from most of the game's cast. It is being developed for release both on DVD and on Universal Media Disc (UMD) for Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP)
• Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII — A video game being developed for the Sony PlayStation 2, starring Final Fantasy VII's Vincent Valentine and taking place one year after the events of Advent Children.
• Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII — The conclusion to the series, very little is known about Crisis Core at this point other than that it is being developed for the PSP and is expected to be released in early 2006.
