Congo is the name of a novel by Michael Crichton. The novel centers around an expedition searching for diamonds in the dense rain forests of Congo region of Africa. The expedition brings along an ape named Amy that can communicate with humans using sign language.
The novels starts with an abrupt end to an expedition in the dense forests of Congo with the killing of all the people on expedition. The expedition was in search of the lost city of Zinj believed to be somewhere deep in those rain forests. A video image taken by a camera there, and transmitted through satellite to the base station in USA, shows a peculiar race of gorillas to be responsible for it. Those gorillas are different from normal gorillas in their appearance and behaviour. Another expedition, led by Karen Ross, is launched to find out the truth and to find the city of Zinj, which is believed to be abudant in certain type of diamonds that would change the shape of next nuclear war. This time they take a female gorilla named Amy along with her trainer, Peter Elliot. Peter has his own judgement about the new gorillas which doesn't fit the behavior they've shown there. But later, he finds out how ignorant he was about them....
