The Corona Australis (Latin for Southern Crown) was one of Ptolemy's 48 constellations, and also counts among the 88 modern constellations. The name contrasts with Corona Borealis.
History
The constellation was sometimes considered to be the crown of Sagittarius, which had fallen on the ground for some reason.
