The Cosmic Era is the timeline that the anime Gundam Seed and its sequels and spinoffs take place in. This "alternate universe" of Gundam is noted for its similarities with the original Universal Century, however it is marked with more contemporary themes, such as the effects of genetic engineering, and portrayals of the futuristic equivalents of racial discrimination and ethnic wars.
Major events of the Cosmic Era timeline:
15: George Glenn reveals that he is a Coordinator.
50: The Zodiac Alliance is formed.
53: George Glenn is assassinated by Blue Cosmos.
65: First Mobile Suit developed. Zodiac Alliance renames itself ZAFT (Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty)
67: ZAFT rolls out the ZGMF-1017 GINN, the first fully-functional mobile suit.
69: Atlantic Federation begins mobile suit development program
70: Earth Alliance established. February 11: Bloody Valentine War begins
71: November 2: Fighting ends in the Bloody Valentine War with a cease-fire after the Second Battle of Yakin Due.
Early 72: Treaty of Junius signed, formally ending the war.
Late 73: Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny - start date October. Attack on Armoury One. Remains of Junius Seven dropped onto Earth by Zala loyalists.
