The term creature refers to an animal. The term can be used to dehumanize a person. For example, in the fictional novel Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley, Dr. Frankenstein's hideous construction is often referred to as a "creature." The term literally means "a created thing," and is sometimes used in theology to contrast a created object with a divine Creator under discussion. See for example "Restoring the Creator-creature relation", the title of chapter 8 of Glorify His Name! by AW Tozer. In the trading card game Magic: The Gathering, the term "creature" refers to a class of cards that represent people or beings who fight for the wizard who summoned them. |
