Cyril Davies - Definition and Overview |
Cyril Davies was a British harmonica player and blues musician. He began his career in the early 1950s as part of an acoustic duo with Alexis Korner. In the early 1960s, they added bassist Jack Bruce and drummer Charlie Watts, becoming the electric band Blues Incorporated.
In 1962, they opened a club called the Ealing Club in London. Many musicians came to the club and began their careers playing with Blues Incorporated, including Rod Stewart, Keith Richards, Eric Burdon, Mick Jagger, Brian Jones and Ginger Baker.
Following the dissolution of Blues Incorproated in 1963, Davies formed the Cyril Davies All-Stars with Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Nicky Hopkins, recording four songs for Pye Records. Davies died of leukemia in 1964 and the band was taken over by Long John Baldry.
