 Dacia Logan - Definition

The Logan is a car conceived by the Renault group for the countries where the population has a lower purchasing power than in the West. Its price range will start at 5,000 euros. It replaces the Dacia 1300 series cars that were a Romanian version of the Renault 12.

It is currently produced in Romania, where it is sold under the brand Dacia and was launched in the fall of 2004.

The Logan was the result of the project X90 announced by Renault in 1998, started after the buy-out of Dacia in 1999. This project includes a sedan (already released), a station wagon and a pick-up truck.

Having the front of the Clio and the rear of a Modus, it is based on the platform of the future Clio, the Modus and of the latest version of the Micra. It respects all the European norms.

After Romania, it would be made in developing markets such as Russia, Northern Africa and South America. According to the presence of Renault on these markets, it would be decided whether to use the marque Renault or Dacia. In the markets, like Russia, where Renault has a limited presence, it will enter the gamme of Renault. On other markets, like Morocco, the Logan will allow Dacia to make itself known.

The prices could be as high as 8000 euros, depending on the equipments and the customs duty. They would be set on each market, for having the best possible competitivity.

Renault will not start selling it right-away in the Western Europe, but it will probably import the Logan starting June 2005. Although under the name Dacia, it is expected to be sold in the Renault dealerships.
