Dalkeith Dalkeith

Dalkeith - Definition and Overview

Dalkeith is a burgh of barony in MidLothian, Scotland, lying on the River North Esk. Dalkeith Palace, just outside the town, is the seat of the Duke of Buccleuch, surrounded by parkland and follies. It's got a couple of nice parks, lots of pubs, and a great Italian restaurant. It's the main administrative centre for Midlothian, but it's best at being a feeder town for beautiful Edinburgh. The playpark in Dalkeith palace is fantastic.

The Celtic prefix dal- indicates a water-meadow. Compare Dallas.

Dalkeith is also a suburb of Perth, Western Australia.
