Dan Blocker (December 10, 1928 - May 13, 1972) was an American actor and advocate for social justice. He is best remembered for his role as Eric 'Hoss' Cartwright in the TV western Bonanza.
Actor Dirk Blocker is his son.
Dan passed away when he had gall bladder surgery. He, and Dolphia, whom he met while a student at Sul Ross State,married and all of their chldren's names began with a 'D'. He was a bouncer in a beer joint while a student. He went to Texas Military Institute and his roommate was Ronald Lee ("Runt") Bowen. When he was performing at an Annual Rodeo in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas (Mercedes Livestock Show), he phoned Runt and told him he was making so much money from Bonanza he stuffed it in mattresses. He was a Gentle Giant and good natured.
