- Darth Maul Darth Maul is a character from the fictional Star Wars universe. Darth Maul was a Dark Lord of the Sith, an apprentice to Darth Sidious. Trained in the ways of the Dark Side of the Force from a young age, Maul had no emotion aside from bloodlust and rage. His master constructed him as a weapon of pure hatred. Darth Maul was a Zabrak from Iridonia, although he had no memories of his home world or family. There are some reports that suggest that Maul's birth name was Khameir Sarin. As with all Force-users, Maul was skilled with the lightsaber. However, unlike the traditional dueling techniques of most Sith, Maul combined his swordsmanship with incredible acrobatic and hand-to-hand combat skills, making him a nearly unstoppable dervish of destruction. When fighting multiple opponents, Maul extended the second blade of his lightsaber, doubling his lethality. Darth Maul was also skilled with combining Force talents with mechanics, and was responsible for the design of his signature speeder bike and "Dark Eye" seeker droids. During the Battle of Naboo, Maul was dispatched to Naboo to eliminate the Jedi who had been dispatched by the Republic to settle the conflict. Maul had failed in this task on Tatooine a few days prior, and he thirsted for revenge. In a vicious battle, Maul succeeded in slaying Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. However, overconfidence was his downfall, and Maul was slain by Jinn's apprentice, a young Obi-Wan Kenobi. Darth Maul appeared in the movie The Phantom Menace. He was played by martial arts specialist Ray Park, and voiced by British actor Peter Serafinowicz. Darth Maul's striking visual design, in addition to his limited role in the film, have left many fans wanting to know more about him. Maul's earlier escapades are documented in the popular comic book miniseries Jedi Council: Acts of War, the Ebook Darth Maul: Saboteur, the comic book miniseries Darth Maul, and the novels Episode I Adventures: The Fury of Darth Maul and Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter. In one print, Maul is depicted with having his tattoos not just on his face, but down his torso. |
