Davidson College - Definition and Overview

Davidson College is a highly-selective independent liberal arts college for 1,600 students in Davidson, North Carolina. Since its establishment in 1837, the college has graduated 23 Rhodes Scholars and is consistently ranked in the top ten liberal arts colleges in the country by U.S. News and World Report magazine.

Davidson's sports teams are known as the Wildcats and their colors are red and black. The Wildcats participate in NCAA's Division I (Division I-AA for football) and the Southern Conference for basketball.

Known as the "Princeton of the South", which, in turn, is known as the "Davidson of the North", Davidson College entertains a flawless reputation regionally, nationally, and internationally. Woodrow Wilson attended Davidson College before moving up north to New Jersey to continue his studies. Located on Lake Norman in short proximity from Charlotte, North Carolina, this school of about 2000 undergraduate students features a particular brand of liberal arts education that is hardly matched.

Davidson College, whose faculty is led by president Bobby Vagt, is beyond question one of America's leading institutions of higher education.
