DeadAIM - Definition and Overview

DeadAIM is a program created by JDennis (http://www.jdennis.net) to add new features to AIM (AOL Instant Messenger).

Features

Features added to AIM include:

  • Tabbed message windows for easy switching of conversations
  • The ability to clone and have many instances of AIM running at once.
  • Having partially transparent IM and buddy list windows.
  • Renaming buddies on your buddy list (e.g. theone1195 to Mark S.)
  • Keeping logs of all conversations.
  • Blocking advertisements normally on the AIM window.
  • Suppresing AIM Today windows.
  • Notifications showing who has signed on.

Programming

JDennis has not disclosed much information about how deadAIM was able to modify AIM, only that they had multiple methods to modify the AIM framework.
