Democracy for America is a U.S. political organization formed in 2004. Howard Dean, a former Vermont governor and presidential-nomination candidate, is founder and honorary chairman. It aims to increase grass-roots participation in the Democratic Party by encouraging members of the public to involve themselves in the political process both as activists and as candidates.
The organization focuses on:
- Supporting candidates that are supported by the grassroots for all levels of office by getting their races volunteers, money, and advice in order to build a farm team of progressive candidates.
- Training grassroots in get out the vote techniques.
- Keeping Howard Dean in the news and distributing his message.
- Working with other progressive organizations.
Most U.S. states have local affiliates of Democracy for America.
