Desert warfare can be, like all war, a most brutal place to fight. The elements can sometimes be more dangerous than the actual enemy. A cold enviroment is more dangerous to the troops but a desert is still very inhospitable.
One of the few times desert warfare is desirable is against foreign armies who are not familiar with the area. In fact, knowing how to navigate in the desert is probably the desert fighter's best advantage. Maps and intelligence personell do not prepare a force for terrain such as small hills, rivers, wells and the like. The successful defender or attacker will know how to maneuver around in this enviroment and use it as advantage. From a small hilltop or a hole in the ground one man with a scoped rifle can cause heavy casulties on the most professional of armies, because of the lack of cover in the desert, which allows for clear vision of the enemy. A good sniper can be a major menace to an opposing army in desert terrain. Though the professional army is well trained and will be looking for the sniper, snipers know that one shot is all they need to kill someone and the surprise will shock the troops, rendering them unable to respond. A second shot may give away the sniper's postition, however. The sniper's advantage of little cover in the desert is his disadvantage because the enemy will certainly be looking for where a sniper would hide and there are not a lot of choices. There is another advantage to snipers-keeping the enemy from getting water and destroy their available water supply and a small force can defeat a far larger, but far thirstier force. There is one enemy to the Desert fighter, his very nemises, Airplanes,Helicopters,Bombers and Tanks or modern warfare which can be extremly menacing to Desert Guerrillas because they have no way or little way to eqaul such force little places to hide and it's a clear battle field with few things such as trees in the jungle to stop tanks and assualt vehichles and hinder vision from aricraft. But in the desert enviorment with little obstruction except lack of water and brutal heat. Two conventional Army's who fight and the one with the best tanks and aircraft and tactics will win but rememeber lots of unexpected stuff happens in war. The one who has the best equipment and men usaully win like all war a good example would be the gulf war. They're is two ways to fight in the desert, like all enviroments, Guerrilla warfare and conventional warfare
Now common misconceptions about Conventional warfare is it is the absence of chemical warfare biological warfare andNuclear warfare and it is safe to say the same thing about Guerrilla warfare. Because you can integrate these into your Guerrilla or Conventional as Tactical weapons to help you defeat your enemy. But if you were to use these weapons as the only way to defeat your enemy this would be considered pure Chemical,Biological or nuclear war. But even if you turned the enemy soldiers into Nuclear slushies and all the Chemical, Biological, and Nuclear weapons to turn his homeland into a wasteland there's probably someone who survived the fallout and they're probably mad about it so you might have to fire a few shots. But remeber to use these weapons to annhilate a city or installation or battlion that would slaughter your men it is a to use these weapons to destroy the position, so you and your men could go and clean up the reminants of his army or survivors or take the position. But getting away from the subject of WMD's, we can safely assume Desert Warfare will certainly be part of the future. And Super powers of the world must train for it because, of the threats in the middle east and north africs and central asia. It is important to know how to navigate and fight in these Deserts which have Nurtured brutalDictatorships ,
fierce [[terrorists], Paramilitary groups, and Deadly religous cults. But this isn't to say that any other parts of the world aren't without they're problems and freaks but the above named reigons have they're problems. So desert warfare like in the past will continue.
