Dinky is an acronym, short for double-income; no kids yet. It was occasionally used (perhaps only in the UK) to describe a high-earning couple who chose not to have children, and were therefore able to afford a more decadent consumer lifestyle than those with family responsibilities. The term was coined during the 1980s, at the height of yuppie culture, but never gained as much currency as the latter term.
