Diocese of Oxford - Definition and Overview

The Diocese of Oxford forms part of the Province of Canterbury in England.

It covers the counties of

• Berkshire (118 churches)
• Buckinghamshire (152 churches)
• Oxfordshire (227 churches)

and has

• three churches in the county of Bedfordshire
• one church in the traditional county of Middlesex

The diocese is divided into three Episcopal Areas corresponding to its Archdeaconries and an Archdeaconry for the city and suburbs:

• Buckinghham Episcopal Area (Archdeaconry of Buckingham)
  • includes Deaneries of Amersham, Aylesbury, Buckingham, Burnham & Slough, Claydon, Milton Keynes, Mursley and Newport
• Dorchester Episcopal Area
  • includes Deaneries of Aston & Cuddesdon, Bicester & Islip, Chipping Norton, Deddington, Henley. Witney and Oxford
• Reading Episcopal Area (Archdeaconry of Berkshire)
  • includes Deaneries of Abingdon, Bracknell, Bradfield, Maidenhead, Newbury, Reading, Sonning, and Vale of White Horse

• The Archdeaconry of Oxford included the Deaneries of Oxford and Cowley
