Discogs - Definition and Overview

Discogs (short for discographies) was started in November 2000 by Kevin Lewandowski.

It is a website whose original goal was to build the most comprehensive database of electronic music, organized around artists, labels, and releases available. It is slowly expanding to include other genres of music, starting with -- but not limited to -- hip hop. Since the start of 2004 the aim has expanded to cataloguing any genre of music, but is still primarily focused on the electronic music scene.

Discogs is built out of submissions contributed by members of the community. It has a group of moderators that vote on whether a submission should be accepted or not.
