Disneyland Resort - Definition and Overview

The Disneyland Resort is the collection of Disney hotels, theme parks, shops, and restaurants in Anaheim, California.

It includes:

• Disneyland
• Disney's California Adventure
• The Disneyland Hotel
• Disney's Grand Californian Hotel
• Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel
• Downtown Disney

Disneyland Resort was formally inaugurated in July 2001, with the opening of Downtown Disney and California Adventure. The Walt Disney Company purchased some land around the park which had been occupied by commercial properties and had plagued Walt Disney's original vision (see Disneyland article) and built part of Downtown Disney and a brand new parking structure on the new land. The Mickey and Friends parking structure is the largest parking space in the Western Hemisphere.

Disney's California Adventure, part of Downtown Disney, and three new hotels were built on Disneyland's original parking lot.

The change from Disneyland Park to Disneyland Resort was part of ten year plan involving an addition of one theme park to each of Disney's resorts around the world;
