Corangamite is an federal electoral Division in Victoria, Australia. It comprises approximately 7570 sq km, including several southern suburbs of Geelong, as well as the towns of Anglesea, Apollo Bay, Barwon Heads, Colac, Inverleigh, Lorne, Ocean Grove, Portarlington, Torquay and Winchelsea.
The electorate was created in 1901 at the time of Australian Federation (see History of Australia). It is named for Lake Corangamite, Australias largest permanent inland salt lake, which is located in the Division.
Corangamite is traditionally conservative, but has become much more demographically diverse in recent years. At its creation, the electorate consisted of a largely rural population, but this has changed with the influx of people from urban areas into coastal towns such as Torquay and Anglesea. Though the Liberal Party of Australia still holds Corangamite by a 5.7% margin, these demographic changes have resulted in predictions that the seat may eventually fall to the Australian Labor Party. The current member is Stewart McArthur, first elected at the 1984 federal election.
