Dmitri Hvorostovsky - Definition and Overview

Dmitri Hvorostovsky (born 1962) is a top baritone opera singer from Russia.

Hvorostovsky was born in Krasnoyarsk in Siberia. He studied at the Krasnoyarsk School of Arts under Jekatherina Yofel. The baritone went on to win First Prize at both the Soviet Glinka National Competition in 1987 the Toulouse Singing Competition in 1988. Most notably, perhaps, in 1989 he successfully competed against hometown favorite Bryn Terfel to win the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition.

He has since sung at virutally every major opera house, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden, the Berlin State Opera, La Scala and the Vienna State Opera.
