There are 6,642 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.58% White, 0.20% Black or African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.89% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. 2.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,420 households out of which 40.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.70% are married couples living together, 7.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.40% are non-families. 20.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
