Donald Eugene Gibson (April 3, 1928 - November 17, 2003) was a country singer. He was born in Shelby, North Carolina, United States, and he was buried in the same town.
His first band was called Sons of the Soil, which started recording in 1948. Two of his greatest hits were Don't Tell Me Your Troubles (1959) and Sea of Heartbreak (1961).
"I Can't Stop Loving You" was recorded by more than 700 artists, but Ray Charles had the big pop version in 1962. Born on April 3, 1928, Mr. Gibson was a poor boy from Shelby, N.C., who dropped out of school in second grade. But he became a songwriting genius who sold millions of records.
