Don Michael Randel is the twelfth and current president of the University of Chicago. He took office on July 1, 2000, replacing the controversial Hugo F. Sonnenschein. Previously, he had served as provost of Cornell University. In his academic work, Randel specializes in the music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. He has served as editor of both the well-known New Harvard Dictionary of Music and the Harvard Biographical Dictionary of Music.
