Donald E. Belfi is a graduate of Georgetown University (1957) and Fordham University School of Law (1960). From 1960 to 1962, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County, and from 1962 to 1974 he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Nassau Country. In 1975, he was elected to the District Court bench on the Republican and Conservative tickets. He was re-elected in 1980 on the Democratic, Republican, Conservative, and Liberal tickets. He was elected to in 1984, re-elected in 1994, and is running for re-election in 2004 to the Country Court on the Republican and Conservative tickets. In 1994, he presided over the trial of Long Island Railroad shooter, Colin Ferguson.
