This is a special temporary page established to assist those seeking to contribute to the relief and humanitarian effort in the nations along the Indian Ocean affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Because anyone can edit Wikipedia, beware of scams or errors on this page. (Discuss any concern on the Donation Talk Page.)
Missing image 2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake_-_affected_countries.png Countries most directly affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake The humanitarian response to the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake has been immediate and worldwide. The following is a partial list of charitable organizations that are accepting public donations, organized according to the countries in which they are based. Certain charities in some countries have standing arrangements with corporations or governments whereby those institutions match the public's donations, either wholly or partially. Look for "MF" in the listings below. In the interests of neutrality, donating money directly to organizations in the affected countries rather than via organisations in your own country would remove one possible source of non-neutrality; however, you would need to develop your own trust factor for those organisations, for example by checking internet based resources (mailing lists, websites, etc.) and information sources that you trust; Wikipedia will not decide that trust factor for you. Note that in some countries, a large part of the cost of telephone donation calls goes to the operator. Donating via a bank transfer, Paypal, or credit card will avoid that overhead. Also please note that donations of blankets, foodstuffs, teddy bears and most other non-financial supplies are unlikely to help. Several organizations have pointed out that in this case the cost of transporting and distributing supplies far exceeds the cost of buying them locally.
