Dosso Dossi (c.1490 - 1542) 1, real name Giovanni di Niccolò de Luteri, was an Italian High Renaissance painter and founder of the Ferrara school. He held the position of principal court artist to dukes Alphonso I and Ercole II for 30 years. Dosso worked with his brother Battista Dossi frequently.

Note 1: The 2003 Columbia Encyclopedia gives his birthdate as c.1479. The J. Paul Getty Trust (which owns some of Dossi's works), along with Britannica and Encarta give the birthdate as c.1490.
