Douglas Ose (born June 27 1955), American politician, was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from 1999 to 2005, representing the 3rd District of California. He was born in
Sacramento, California and was educated at the University of California, Berkeley. He is not seeking reelection in 2004. His sister, Mary Ose lost the Republican nomination to former state Attorney General and former US Congressman Dan Lungren.
In December 2003, Ose introduced a bill (H.R. 3687) to outlaw the broadcast of George Carlin's seven "dirty words," including "compound use (including hyphenated compounds) of such words and phrases with each other or with other words or phrases, and other grammatical forms of such words and phrases (including verb, adjective, gerund, participle, and infinitive forms)."
This Bill received criticism from some conservatives because one of the banned words, "Piss" is used in the King James Bible and there was concerned the Christian radio stations would be fined for reading Bible verses.
Ose also appeared as himself with Barbara Boxer in the Gilmore Girls episode Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days.
