Dungarvan Dungarvan

Dungarvan - Definition and Overview

Dungarvan (Irish: Dún Garbháin) is a town and harbour on the south coast of Ireland in the province of Munster. Dungarvan is the administrative centre of County Waterford. The town's name is derived from the Irish, which translates to "Garbhan's fort", referring to a church founded by Saint Garbhan in the seventh century.

The town is accessed from the N25 route (European route E30), which connects Cork, Waterford and Rosslare Europort.

Dungarvan was once connected to the rail network, on a route from Mallow, County Cork to Waterford.
