Earthsuit Earthsuit

Earthsuit - Definition and Overview

Earthsuit was a short-lived New Orleans-based Contemporary Christian Music band in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Earthsuit was made-up of guitarist Dave Rumsey, keyboardist/vocalist Paul Meany, bassist Roy Mitchell, drummer David "Hutch" Hutchison, and vocalist Adam LaClave. Fame not seeming to be meant for the quintet, which only released one album.

Music

Earthsuit only had one official release - Kaleidoscope Superior (2000). The album's 9 tracks managed to briefly gain some recognition. Only two other collections are known - a 12 song collection containing early versions of some of Kaleidoscope Superior's songs, some previously unheard songs, and a cover of Killing Me Softly. The other collection is "The Rise of Modern Simulation" which seems to be post-Kaleidoscope but no release information is available for it from either the Band's former label. However, it was available for a short time through direct sale from the Bands website. This collection features five original songs as well as other materials including a remix of The Kaleidoscope Superior track "Against the Grain" and a song featuring samples from another of the album's tracks. It also feature a cover of the Talking Heads' "Once in a Lifetime" as well as several concert videos, available as extra content for the computer.

The band broke up after constant touring through 2001. Paul Meany formed a new band Mutemath (http://www.mutemath.com), who have a debut EP out now. Adam Laclave formed a new band Macrosick (http://www.macrosick.com), who have released a demo CD appropriately titled "demodisk".

Message

Earthsuit seemed to have genuinely appreciated music, and created music with an original compositional and arrangement style. They drew from Rap-Metal, by taking the Vocal chorus/Rap verse pattern, funk, New Orleans Jazz, and sampling. Reggae is an obvious influence from a percussive rhythmical approach. This unique blend was virtually nonexistent elsewhere.

Earthsuit, as a Christian Band, tried to communicate a Christian message to their audience. Earthsuit often communicated through convoluted metaphors, which made them interesting from an artistic point of view.
