Ed Sciaky - Definition

Edward Leon Sciaky (April 2, 1948 - January 29, 2004) was a disc jockey in Philadelphia.

He was born in New York City and raised in Philadelphia, where he graduated from Temple University. Sciaky (pronounced SHOCK-ee) became known for recognizing and promoting new talent, helping establish the careers of scores of artists, most notably Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, David Bowie, and YES.

He died at Manhattan's Penn Station after collapsing on the sidewalk while preparing to return home with his wife. Sciaky was on kidney dialysis, and his right foot was amputated in December of 2003 as a result of complications from diabetes. He was 55.
