Eilean Donan is a castle in the western Scottish Highlands situated on an island in Loch Duich next to Dornie, and is accessible only by a footbridge. Built in 1220 by Alexander II of Scotland, it is said to have been one of the refuges of Robert the Bruce when he was on the run from English soldiers. It was destroyed by three English frigates in 1719 since it was being used as a garrison by Spanish troops. Restored in 1932, it is now one of the most photographed monuments in Scotland and a popular venue for weddings.

Eilean Donan is the home of the MacRae clan.
