The El Salvador national football team is the national team of El Salvador and is controlled by the Federación Salvadoreña de Fútbol. They made two World Cups, but lost all six games, including a World Cup record 10-1 defeat against Hungary in 1982.

The Football War started after a qualifying game for the 1970 World Cup against Honduras. After massive rioting between the fans, on July 14, 1969, the Salvadorian army launched an attack against Honduras. A cease fire was put in effect six days later.
