El Bombero Torero (The Bullfighting Fireman) is one of a handful of comedy bullfighting troupes that tour Spain and Latin America during their respective bullfighting seasons. Another is Popeye Torero, dressed as a sailor. Inevitably including a gang of dwarves, these shows offer broad, circus-type humour for families and children, some of whom may not come to a bullfight otherwise.
Most of the bigger Spanish and French fiestas include one comedy bullfight in their list of events. They involve much smaller bulls, usually, which are not generally killed or wounded.
In addition to the pratfalls and acrobatics, the troupe will make fun of political figures and leading bullfighters; pre-democracy, this was sometimes quite radical. Some of the dwarves are pretty daring toreros and injuries are far from uncommon.
